For all the good people out there who still had some doubts, please see this one. The most complete studies already showed EVs to be cleaner than combustion engine cars even 2 years ago. Now this study projects where we'll get to as EVs gain economies of scale benefits and recycling infrastructure.
Up to 300 times less polluting than like for like combustion engine cars! That is quite something to look forward to as we make this switch.
Some more info: T&E (Transport & Environment) calculations suggest that battery electric cars will use 58% less energy than a petrol car over its lifetime and emit 64% less carbon dioxide.
The report points to a “double standard” used when assessing the relative merits of electric and fossil fuel vehicles, which takes the use of oil for granted, but the mining for minerals not. Of course the oil has to be drilled, transported, processed in a refinery, etc. etc. to be produced and then used in the car well.
Happy days to see not only that these cars are cleaner today, but what is possible in the future too
